Christian Saying Prayers Hospitalized
A small newspaper in Connecticut reported that a Christian saying prayers in public was hospitalized after a concerned observer called the police to report what they thought was abnormal, irregular behavior. The hospital officials said this was a standard operating procedure when dealing with calls of this nature.
Physicians at the hospital questioned the detained Christian about his behavior and the reply was that he was speaking with God. The doctors pursued this further and determined that the person was hearing voices and thus was mentally ill and consequently diagnosed with schizophrenia.
The doctors then asked the Christian to take some medication and were refused. Medical personnel then called for back up. A struggle ensued eventually ending in the patient being put in 4 point restraints and given an injection. This person was hospitalized for a month.
During this time, the priest heading the church of the hospitalized Christian came to the hospital to try to remedy the situation and was likewise determined to be mentally ill with acute schizophrenia and also hearing voices and consequently hospitalized.
Apparently, other outside sources related to the church are in the process of creating a lawsuit against the hospital with the chief argument being that hearing the voice of god is not the same as a schizophrenic mental illness in which patients hear voices. The doctors involved in the case have made a firm statement that they disagree with this claim and several of the people involved in the lawsuit have also hospitalized for the same disorder as they claimed that they were receiving guidance from god, or voices as thought by the doctors, in doing so. Good luck!
